With Easter upon us, time for a visit to Bells in 1970 with (the fabulous) Ma and Pa Bendall

A news episode from “This Day Tonight” - ferretted from the annals of Australia’s national broadcaster by Detective Ian Lording, who added: “This is a ripper. I had to beat up three armed security guards and crack open the vault door to retrieve this which was buried deep down in the archives of the ABC. What a couple of treasures they are. 

“I remember surfing at Moffats, Christmas holidays in 1969 and they were both out there. I couldn't believe how old they were. Sadly, I'm older now than they were then.”

From the ABC: This episode of "This Day Tonight" features 'Pa' and 'Ma' Bendall, a surfing couple in their 60s travelling by van with their dogs and camping at Bells Beach. While younger, competitive surfers kick back at the pub awaiting the right conditions, Pa Bendall has a point to prove, and paddles out through the chop.
