Our 110th subscriber board giveaway

It’s quite the combo: Bill Tolhurst and Harley Ingleby.  Sons of the Coffs Coast, both were super hot groms who became standout surfers, and both are design obsessives who’ll talk water flow and foil and edges and tech tweaks until your ears implode.

Bill was shaping boards for Bob Cooper and other labels while he was still at school in the late ’60s, and while he’s mostly sidestepped media attention over the decades since there are a host of surfers out there who’ll tell you just how sweet their Tolhurst is – including a growing crew in the US, and in particular his many Thunderbolt fans in Hawaii.

Harley started riding Tolhursts when he was 12 and Bill was always impressed that this young guy could give him such detailed feedback on his various shapes and subtle changes. In his early twenties he’d begun making design changes to Bill’s standard designs and from 2007 these boards became the Harley Ingleby Series. Harley won two Australian Open titles in the mid 2000s and then topped that with two WSL World Longboard titles (2009 and 2014) riding his HI models.

So must say we’re pretty chuffed to be running with the latest HI G6 for this subscriber promo! And here’s the description straight from the Thunderbolt Surf Australia website:

“The G/6 was designed for good surf in the chest-high plus range. The unique continual rocker has a straighter tail and a longer increased nose lift than the HP rocker. Add 6 channels and this surfboard becomes an acceleration machine. When the surf is a bit intense for your everyday longboard, the HI G6 will keep you in control in the pocket.

“Its Thunderbolt Black construction features 6oz carbon fibre laminate combined with 2oz fiberglass. With the lightness and suppleness of carbon fibre, Black is incredibly light, with fast flex and responsiveness throughout the board.

“In regular conditions we recommend the FCS Harley XL tri set. In larger open faces or hollow surf, we suggest the FCS Harley XL quad set. Surfers that like the extra speed may also like the quad set on smaller days.”

It’s 9’1” x 21 ¾” x 2 13/16” x 60.5 litres – and some Aussie subscriber will own this rocket by next issue.
