Volte Wetsuits West Australian Longboard & Logger Titles – forecast and photos

29 July 20

Trigg Beach WA: With a staggering 18 separate State Championship Titles on the line, the event has attracted a strong field of local contestants plus those travelling from Perth, the South-West, Mid-West and Great Southern to compete.

Some of Western Australia’s best longboarders are set to converge on the Peel coastline this weekend, for the final round of the Volte Wetsuits WA Longboard & Logger Titles presented by SunSmart.

After an amazing opening event in Yallingup back in February, it will be on for surfers both young and old this weekend, with great conditions forecast for divisions ranging from Under-18 Juniors through to Over-70 Kahuna's.

The blue-ribbon Open Men's division is stacked with talent, all vying to see who'll be crowned State Champion in 2020.

Jack Medland (Dunsborough) finished first in Yallingup in both the Open Longboard and Open Logger division's and will one to watch at Avalon later this week.

"I'm definitely excited to be competing this weekend and the forecast is looking really fun," said Medland. "It's been such a crazy year that we didn't even think we'd get a second event. For me my focus is definitely shifted towards logging, which the long walls of Avalon are perfect for."

Many local Peel surfers are set to compete on home soil including; Brendan Collins (Falcon), Ryan Egan (Meadow Springs), Zali Cory (Falcon) and Jacob McIvor (Rockingham), who'll all be out to benefit from a home ground advantage this weekend.

Surfing WA last held a Longboard State Title at Avalon back in 2017 and the hiatus as attracted a diverse demographic of competitors from across WA. The event will provide a festival style atmosphere, as families, friends, and old surfing buddies get together to share waves, stoke and stories this weekend.

Surfing Western Australia's Events Manager Justin Majeks is looking forward to the weekend event saying, "It's a great opportunity for our longboard community o get together again. It's been over five months since our opening event in Yallingup and I wish all our surfers the best of luck and look forward to crowning our 2020 Longboard and Logger State Champions."

Favourable surf conditions are forecast for the event which will begin on Saturday, with heats to commence at Avalon from 8am with finals set to happen on Sunday.

The 2020 Volte WA Longboard and Logger Titles presented by SunSmart - Surfing WA will be streaming live heat scores and results for people to follow via their new live event site: www.surfingwalive.com.au
