Sophie Goldschmidt, WSL CEO: “After consulting with Surfing West Australia, we felt that the unique circumstances that prompted the 2018 cancellation had not significantly improved and returning was not in the best interests of the surfers this season. We extensively explored various alternatives before deciding to invest in completing the event at Uluwatu in Bali.”
WSL Commissioner Kieren Perrow, sounding like a politician, added: “There were extenuating circumstances surrounding this season’s event and we are committed to trying to finish the competition if possible. It’s a significant investment for the WSL, but it’s the right thing to do.”
Not sure Sou-West WA will be much better shark-wise in 2019, or Jeffries Bay . . . got dollars invested in the wave pools anyone?
