News from Atoll Travel:
Due to the disruption to air traffic via the Middle East tourist numbers to the Maldives have dropped significantly over the past four weeks. This includes for the surf tourism sector with many Brazilian, East Coast USA and European surfers who mostly fly with the Middle East carriers Emirates, Qatar and Etihad airlines having to cancel or postpone their trips until this situation subsides.
This is affecting bookings for resort-based surf tours such as Cinnamon Dhonveli (Pasta Point); charter boats and guesthouses on islands near the surfing zones.
Travel from Australia, New Zealand, West Coast USA and UK to the Maldives has to date been unaffected. Singapore Airlines, Sri Lankan Airlines and Malaysian Airlines are currently operating regular schedules for the Maldives.
