This weekend - Queensland Longboard State Titles – forecast looking pretty fine

12 June 19

Queensland’s top longboarders are preparing for the 2019 State Titles, which is set to kick off this Saturday 15 and wrap on Sunday. This is the state’s premiere Longboard event and provides the exclusive pathway for athletes chasing a spot in the 2019 Queensland Longboard team set to compete at the Australian Surfing Championships from August 9 - 26, 2019.

The long range forecast shows a 2-4ft (1.2m) Easterly swell heading to the Sunshine Coast in time for the weekend, along with light westerly winds.

Last year’s Open men’s division champion Nic Jones (Buderim, QLD) is in fine form heading into the 2019 competition.

“Last year was great,” said Jones. “The competition was very tough. We managed to find a few good banks on the Sunny Coast which was lots of fun. Overall it was an enjoyable event. I had been away for a few years, and last year was one of my first Surfing Queensland events for a long time – so it felt great to come straight back into a win.”

“This event is one of the top events for longboarders, so I’m very excited for the weekend. Hopefully, we find some great waves and have another great weekend with everybody.”

Surfing Queensland CEO Adam Yates is excited to be crowning the state’s top longboarders this weekend.

“We’re definitely looking forward to this weekend’s action,” said Yates. “Queensland is home to some of the best longboarders in the world, and the Sunshine Coast’s point breaks are world-class - that’s a recipe for an excellent surfing contest.”

This event will also host a paddle-out, in conjunction with International Surfing Day – as part of the World Surf League's “Stop Trashing Waves” campaign, regarding their latest sustainability commitments designed to address critical environmental issues.

Spectators/competitors are encouraged to call the Surfing Queensland event hotline on (07) 3030 6388 from 6:30 am each morning of the event for a confirmed location / start time.

This event is proudly supported and funded by the naturally refreshing Sunshine Coast City Council, the official destination partner.  A destination enshrined in nature yet with the capability and infrastructure of a progressive regional centre, there are many reasons to host your event on the Sunshine Coast.
