“In April 1975, the world of skateboarding stood on the edge of a revolution. Welcome to the Del Mar Nationals — the most important skateboard contest in history. 

“This legendary event was where sidewalk surfing transformed into a full-fledged sport and a powerful subculture. Urethane wheels had just dropped, Cadillac Wheels and the Bahne Brothers hosted the event… and then the Venice, California Zephyr Team showed up to change skateboarding forever. 

“The contest brought together the giants of the era — Ty Page, Russ Howell, The Logan Brothers, and more — all masters of the clean, technical style of the time. But then came the Dogtown Z-Boys — Stacy Peralta, Tony Alva, Jay Adams, and their Venice crew — with low, aggressive carves, surf-style turns, Vans shoes, Levi’s, blue Zephyr shirts, and the swagger that would rewrite skateboarding’s DNA. 

“From the slalom event on a slick, varnished ramp that took out rider after rider… to the freestyle showdown where polite spins met raw, rebellious style — the crowd witnessed the birth of skateboarding’s attitude. This was more than tricks. It was style. Identity. Individuality. 

“The Z-Boys proved that skateboarding wasn’t just a sport — it was art, rebellion, and personal expression. The way you rode, dressed, and moved to the music became part of your statement.”
