Most fans of surf history will know of Andrew Crockett, he looked after a lot of early surf photographers’ work going back to the early 2000s - selling prints for them, and generally helping their legacies along.
He’s also been particularly helpful to us here at PLB over the years, and there’s no way our 12 pages on the late, gifted ’60s surf photographer John Pennings could have come together in the current mag without Andrew. He proved particularly patient in giving us access to John’s handwritten notes and helping source the photos.
Although generations apart, John Pennings and Andrew had struck up a great friendship over the years. And while John had quite a profile back in the day, apart from Andrew’s three excellent SwitchFoot books and his long-running Hodaddy site, John’s work remained largely unseen over the decades since.
After taking a break for a bit, Andrew has re-launched the Hodaddy site and it’s a great spot for a stroll through surfing’s rich past. And among the featured photographers, if you’d like a print of any of John Pennings’ photos, all proceeds will go to John’s wife Patricia and daughter Rhonda.
