A new book by vintage West Australian longboarder and author, Ray Bayliss
This collection of funny and nostalgic coming-of-age short stories is set against the backdrop of Perth, Western Australia, in the 1960s and ’70s, and follows two fictional characters, inseparable mates Ben and Gary, as they navigate the slippery road through their teenage years.
Narrated by Ben, their sometimes planned, but more often accidental adventures see them mostly in the losing seat, whilst chasing waves, girls, and adulthood at home and overseas.
Funny and painfully relatable, this book is a celebration of friendship, surfing, and growing up at that unforgettable time in life when everything feels possible, yet nothing ever quite goes to plan.
Ray says that, although the stories are works of fiction, there are grains of truth - which often inspired the tall tales - sprinkled in amongst the fantasy, and he’d love to see if you can guess which is which.
He reckons that most people who were around at that time will readily relate to the yarns and, even if you are too young to have been there, you’ll still get a laugh out of the stories - and maybe discover what your parents could have been up to back then!
If you enjoy a good chuckle and like a bit of nostalgia that harks back to those golden days, then jump on a copy HERE
