THE WORLD’S GOT EVERYTHING IN IT
As someone who plays a mean acoustic ‘Hanging 5’, drops gratuitous music vids onto the PLB website and regularly muses about his time in the notorious Coffs Harbour pub band Hank & the Johnnies, the ed is always looking to incorporate music references into PLB. No surprise then that when he was checking a pretty extraordinary group of photos from places near and far, the words of late-lamented Kiwi/Aussie guitarslinger and globalist Spencer P Jones’ song ‘The Worlds Got Everything In It’ came to him. See how he cleverly weaves the lyrics around 12 pages of the most diverse and creative photos we’ve featured for a while.
THE 1%’s TREASURE
Or if you like, Brazilian surfer and German photographer go on Portuguese wave hunt and score! Apparently only 1% of Portuguese surf and anyway you won’t see any of them in this 6 pager written by Brazilian Pedro Scansetti and with fab photos by acclaimed ocean and surf photographer Simon Fitz. Pedro got great waves all to himself on a day to remember with the wind chill factor at about 1 degree too!
DAVE MILNES’ SOUTH COAST IN THE ’60s
When we see old ‘60s surf photos many of them look like ones we’ve seen before - and that’s probably because we have! Dave’s one of the originals but his 10 pages of shots here haven’t had the exposure of some of the other more high profile names and they look really fresh - if that’s the right word. At 83 Dave is still shooting, mainly covering comps on the NSW South Coast and JB gives us a rundown on Dave and his history.
A POEM FOR CANTABRIA
It’s late winter in the Bay of Biscay, the sun is shining, it’s 13 degrees both in and out of the water and there are waves. Mimi and Jonas Hill had been visiting Spain for years before recently moving there permanently. Mini writes lyrically and inspiringly about this typical classic day in her adopted home and Jonas chimes in with some evocative photos.
KLITMOLLER LOGGER
From cool to really, really cold! We catch up with Thilde Sofie Rasmussen, the 22-year-old four time Danish National Longboard Champion, for the lowdown on what got to her into longboarding and what it’s like to be surfing most of the time in her home town's freezing cold water. And she actually loves it! And prefers it to that awful warm water in the tropics. Yes really!
THE DECPTION OF SIMPLICITY
Some Like it Classic is a new movie from French filmmaker Romain Juchereau, and gun writer Sam Clemente’s Ella Boyd takes us behind the lens and into the life and mind of the filmmaker and his aim to celebrate the seemingly simple but complex principles behind old school hot dogging as well as paying tribute to the original films, particularly Some Like it Wet and Bruce Brown’s The Endless Summer. Plus an informative selection of photos and film frames from Romaine.
