Surfing at the Slim Dusty Centre! "Where the Sky Meets the Sea" exhibition new dates.

21 December 19

Crescent Head’s Roger Fergusson and Danny McGaw are leading a team, comprising legends Shane Steadman, Bob Kennerson and other notables in putting together a major, two-month exhibition at the swish Slim Dusty Exhibition Centre in Kempsey.

The exhibition is titled "Where the Sky Meets the Sea". It's a celebration of the ocean based lifestyle of Crescent Head, comprising indigenous coastal activities, the fishermen, lifesaving and, of course, a major display of Cresso's surfing history. There’s a mega display area assigned to the exhibition (you could bloody well hold a Chinese military parade in there with room enough for the Moscow Circus to ponce around in with room to spare).

This exhibition will also incorporate the Crescent Head Surf Art Exhibition, a major art show attracting artists Australia wide.

The surfing history component, up to modern times, will include historic boards, interviews, memorabilia, movies, artwork, lotsa pics from Albe Falzon, Bob Weeks and heaps from the locals private albums.

As part of the display, a section of the historic Crescent Head weather shed will be reconstructed. This legendary 100 foot long structure was used by a generation of surfers from the 60's to camp in and watch the surf peeling down the iconic point. The shed was an integral part of Cresso’s surfing history.

Also on display, will be an area showing the manufacture of boards with a mock up of shaping, glassing bays etc. According to Kenno, there will be the smell of resin in the air, so you beauty.

Included, will be a local manufacturers expo with a host of new boards on display and for sale. Manufacturers will include Shane Surfboards, Bob Kennerson Longboards, Peter Cornish and others of note.

Shane Steadman will have a book launch of his epic tome, "The Shane Gang", during the exhibition. The book includes the story behind his giving the world the Ugh boot and many other tales to make ya's hoot.

Towards the end of the exhibition will be a Back to Crescent Head night. A surf inspired party with live bands and a reunion of all the legends of surfing associated with Cresso throughout the ages.

Yep, it'll be big, bold, highly educational and a real hoot to boot. So get there to enjoy the fun and show ya support for the oceanic history of the beloved, famous Crescent Head. Yep, Yee Haaa, Hang Ten and Cowabunga folks, don't miss it!
