“Surf Sisters” to Premiere at Melbourne Documentary Film Festival

Victorian longboarder Lara Phillips (@sea_sirene) will take her inspiring story from the lineup to the big screen when the short documentary Surf Sisters screens at the Melbourne Documentary Film Festival on 7 July at Cinema Nova.

Surf Sisters follows Lara's personal journey through longboarding and explores how surfing became a catalyst for transformation, confidence, connection and belonging. The film highlights the powerful role that community, friendship and the longboarding lifestyle can play in changing lives.

Lara is currently ranked No. 2 in Victoria in the Over 50 Women's Longboarding Division and will represent Victoria at the Australian Longboard Titles later this year.

Beautifully shot by renowned West Coast surf photographer Katey Shearer and directed by Christian Buxton, Surf Sisters is a heartfelt celebration of the people, places and communities that make longboarding so much more than just a sport.

The film also shines a light on the growing movement of women embracing longboarding and the supportive surf communities that continue to foster participation, friendship and personal growth.
