Here’s a tuned machine! Our last six boards in a row have all been big single-fin logs so for this issue we’re rapt to present the Black Square PRO from shaper Ryan Chelman, “the top end of our performance range of longboards”.
A lifetime surfer raised in his parent’s old school surf shop, Ryan’s a “self taught shaper and glasser” who’s built all sorts of surfboards from start-to-finish under his own label on the Mid North Coast, and the last two years “testing skills and gaining knowledge” at one of Australia’s busiest production factories, the Glass Lab on the Gold Coast.
Ryan still designs, shapes and glasses all of his own Black Square boards, running the label with wife Kristy, and applying everything he’s learnt to every board.
“The PRO model has been constantly refined over the last eight or ten years in competitions and at beach and pointbreaks up and down the East Coast of Australia.
“It suits most conditions but thrives when the waves have some punch. It’s super responsive, loves tight arcs, and carries plenty of speed and drive.”
And we all love speed and drive!
At 9’1” x 22 ¼” x 2 5/8” it’s going to be a star in some *PLB subscriber’s quiver by next issue! *Australian residents only
