State of Origin: South Australia V Victoria

In its 9th year, the Interstate Longboard Challenge between the SOUL Longboard Club (Ocean Grove) and the South Australian club Maladjusted took place on the 16th February, with Victoria hosting this year.

In what is said to be the only state of origin longboard competition in Australia the SOUL (Southern Ocean Union of Longboarders) with a club of 70 strong members were too much for the Maladjusted team this year.

The day was broken into team events and age divisions. The accumulated score from those events determined that SOUL were too strong. Although there is a trophy named “Flipper” at the presentations that evening SOUL President Andrew Brown was vocal in saying that the camaraderie and mateship between both clubs is what really counts.

Secretary and Vice President of SOUL Longboard club Chad Mclauchlan went on to say “It was an incredible day today. Surf conditions were contestable all day and although the wind picked up a little, the sun continued to shine and so did the competition”.

SOUL would like to send out a massive thank you to the Maladjusted longboard club. “We thank them for driving all this way and keeping camaraderie and mateship at the forefront of the event” said contest director Brian Tucker.

SOUL would like to thank its 24 competitors that surfed on the day, and its other members that came down and helped, it made the day seamless.

With your ongoing support, we continue to be one of the strongest longboard clubs in Australia. Continuing to run events like these that bridge the gap between states helps our longboarding community continue to develop and thrive.

Lastly SOUL would like to thank Michelle, Janine and Chris. The food they organized for dinner was outstanding. Whoever made that chutney....??? we are going to need the recipe. I can see that being a staple on Comp days to accompany the SOUL burger.

SOUL wishes the Maladjusted team safe travels home. We are looking forward to seeing you all next year for the tenth year anniversary of the Interstate Longboard Challenge (ILC) in South Australia.

Up next for SOUL is there Club Competition 2 on Saturday the 16th March, 7am at Ocean Grove Main Beach. On the 16th SOUL will be running a free Junior expression session for any surfers under 16, the juniors can surf any board and receive a free drink and sausage sizzle after their heat.
