Not much tops riding a board you’ve made yourself . . .
Daniel Bekis at his Brooky factory
Punters loving the challenge

Sydney surfer/shaper Daniel Bekis is the guy behind the DJB label, and from his factory in Brookvale he designs, shapes, glasses and sands all his boards from start-to-finish. “Old school” is Dan’s thing.
A Northern Beaches local, Dan started out at Bennetts before going out on his own in 1993, mainly shaping shortboards but soon developing a love for riding and shaping mid-length singles and traditionally styled logs.
“These days I just appreciate all styles, and with feedback from teamriders I’m doing a variety of mids, performance multi-fin longboards, and logs . . . tailoring to suit the local beachbreaks around Sydney as well as the longer walls of the East Coast points.”
He’s got a bit of teacher in him too has Dan, actually he loves it, and for years now he’s been running detailed hands-on 8-hour shaping workshops, guiding people through each step of the process from a foam blank through to glassing your own board.
“The best part is it’s all about you . . . your shape, your design, and your finish.”
If you’ve got a board you’ve dreamed of creating Dan will provide guidance and help you bring it to life – and ready to ride within a week of completion.
