The latest from Surf Relik: Considering the success of last year’s World Longboard Tour the crew at Relik couldn’t be blamed for coasting a bit. After all, they took a good thing and made it great, providing the world’s best longboard surfers with an experience they’d never forget: star treatment, a flexible waiting period that ensured epic waves at Malibu and Lower Trestles, an open qualifier division, unprecedented prize purses for both men and women and a competition format that honored both traditional and progressive approaches.
But why stop there?
How does increasing total prize money to $200,000, effectively doubling the first place purse to $15,000 sound? Expanding the women’s division to include classic stylists along with the progressive rockers, upping the number of invitees from 18 to 24. Building on Relik’s first-of-its-kind video submission open qualifier, this year letting fans vote on which eight lucky surfers will earn a spot in Round 1, and the opportunity to surf Malibu and Lowers with only a couple other surfers.
MALIBU 1ST POINT – HOLDING PERIOD: JUNE 18 to 28
LOWER TRESTLES – HOLDING PERIOD: OCTOBER 1 to 10
OPEN TO EVERYONE – OPEN QUALIFIER
Relik Open Qualifier video submission will be accepted for consideration beginning Thursday March 28.
No geographic restrictions apply – if you’ve got it, we want to see it, no matter what ocean you surf in.
Bit this is no promo gimmick. Both Chad Marshall, last year’s men’s winner at the ‘Bu, and Lidsay Steinriede, last year’s women’s winner at Lowers, were video submissions
