ROBYN SCORES THE SOUTH COAST SLASHER LOW PRO!

Robyn Brown from Hawthorndene in South Australia retired recently and reckon she wasn’t just a little happy when we phoned to say she won the South Coast Slasher Low Pro.

“I’m on the beach pretty much every day now, and a perfect surf day for me is two-foot and glassy. I read the summaries of the boards every issue and this 9’6” sounds just ideal for me!”

After a career as a PE teacher and a swimming instructor, Robyn says, “I’m about to turn 72 and thankfully my pop-up is still pretty good. I surf mostly down at Middleton and along mid coast Seaford. I’m also a member of the Brighton Surf Club so I paddle a ski and get out on the clubby boards too.”

Robyn’s also a long-time member of Surfergirls, an all-age, all-abilities boardriders club based in South Australia who meet for monthly comps and free surfs, and to travel for surf trips. 

“I had my first surf lesson with my niece Hayley in Wollongong when I turned 50. I loved it and I’ve been surfing longboards ever since. I get out there whenever I can.” 

And now you’ll be out there on the 9’6” South Coast Robyn! The Slasher Low Pro is the latest collaboration between CJ Nelson and shaper Ian Chisholm, and intriguingly, is “not a log, and it’s not an HP”. 

Ian has been designing, shaping and glassing his boards from his family-owned Torquay business for 30 years, while CJ has been one of the very best longboarders in the world since the early 2000s. Both are renowned equipment freaks who’ve never stuck to the one lane when it comes to design, and they’ve worked on a bunch of models together over many years. 

Says Chiz, “What we were always really looking for was something that would surf like a high performance longboard, but a board you didn’t need to pump. We wanted it in trim with smoothness the whole time, and to wrap turn and then noseride like a single-fin and hold its speed.”

From 9’ to 10’, the Slasher Low Pro sure has pedigree - and this one’s all yours Robyn!
