Philanthropy made easy with A Dollar A Week

6 November 17

In August 2017 A Dollar A Week (ADAW) website went live, creating a microgiving community of Impact Legends changing the world for just $1 a week. The platform is designed to make giving easy and accessible for everyday people, and to connect them with both grass roots and national projects in the Australian charity space.

Put simply, Impact Legends (donors) register to give $1 a week (via a subscription) to the ADAW platform. During the registration process the donor can choose which of the ten project partners gets their $1 each week, and 100% of the money is passed on to the chosen projects each and every week.

The idea was created by Founder and CEO Mick Hase, located in Coolangatta. Early in 2016 Mick’s family; wife and 2 young boys were touched by Cancer, which created a challenging 12 months ahead.  When asked why he created ADAW he answers:

“2016 was a tough year for us as a family. We’re no different than anyone else that has had to deal with Cancer. It forces you to keep moving forward and really rely on your friends and family to help keep everything together and the “normal” parts of life functioning. It also made me look at my career and what I was working towards. ADAW has been an idea I’ve had for a few years, but last year made me want make it happen, have a project that was bigger than myself. So here we are.”

ADAW is partnered with ten established charities in Australia all providing great impact both domestically and internationally. Working towards outcomes that involve Medical Research, Mental Health, Human Trafficking, Water, Food, Waste Management, Environmental Issues, Poverty, Youth programs, MND, Indigenous Education and more.

The Vision Mick says is “to create a platform where half the world is making a difference to the other half. We’re all engaged in giving, in my experience its very adhoc and can become costly. Here we’re creating an avenue to make giving part of our everyday life, in a way where it won’t break our own budgets, and we can see the outcomes that we choose to be a part of. Imagine if we have 1 million people registered to ADAW, and we get to distribute $1 Million each and every week to these amazing projects producing a huge difference in the world; what would be the impact?”

With the website launched in August, ADAW is now looking to grow the project through corporate/brand partners and other means of support. Their first being the launch event on November 16 on the Gold Coast.

The official ADAW launch party is being held at Balter Brewery, in Currumbin on the Gold Coast, who have generously provided their venue to host the event. Tickets and fundraising will go towards helping A Dollar a Week achieve it’s first goal of having 1000 Impact Legends registered to the platform. As with the platform it is all about choice, it’s a “choose your own ticket price” event, and Balter will be donating bar sales on the night.
