Noosa Fest News – giving back to the locals

31 January 18

The Laguna Real Estate Noosa Festival of Surfing would be nothing if it wasn’t for the unwavering support of local individuals and businesses, and in 2018 the festival joins with the newly-opened Rip Curl Noosaville to give a little back.

Rip Curl Noosaville Locals Day celebrates the community’s population of talented watermen and women from Noosa’s diverse collection of clubs. Noosa Malibu Club, Noosa Heads Surf Life Saving Club and the Noosa Boardriders’ Club will come together to compete in numerous oceanic, waveriding and just plain fun disciplines to discover who is the best club in the bay.

With ten competitors from each team – five adult and five junior, split across genders – the Rip Curl Noosaville Locals Day is about laying differences aside, having fun and celebrating all that this wonderful corner of paradise has to offer. The games commence with the Catch Surfboards paddle race, pitting clubbies against surfies, shortboarders against longboarders, girls against guys and groms against grey-hairs. The mad dash out and back is followed by a test of stand-up skills with the Catch Surfboards Shorey Challenge. Showcasing Catch Surfboards’ fun-for-all soft construction and great performance, entrants will be pulling into the sandy shorebreak of Main Beach and opening up their bag of tricks in a bid to claim the win for their respective team.

Competition will wrap up with a sudden death three-legged race on the Laguna shoreline, but Locals Day doesn’t finish when the sun goes down. Taking to the festival’s XXXX Summer Beach Bar, the evening will continue with Grill’d Noosa’s Local Matters barbecue, all profits from the locally-sourced burgers contributed to worthy local causes.

While all are welcome to the evening – locals, visitors, festival competitors or the general public alike – locals will receive an exclusive wristband, allowing them discounted drinks and awarding them a special lucky door ticket, with the chance to win some fantastic prizes generously donated by the day’s sponsor, Rip Curl Noosaville.

But non-locals will not be forgotten and all are welcomed for an evening of camaraderie, live music and movies, with a charity raffle offering everyone the opportunity to win a superb collection of prizes, all proceeds donated to the day’s winning club.

Locals Day would not be complete without seeing the night out to the tunes of a local live band, and Noosa’s own Los Laws and Dear Doonan will be igniting the Zinc Stage for a dynamic and energetic performance that is sure to wrap up the day with plenty of energy, high spirits and good vibes.

Rip Curl Noosaville Locals Day takes place from 3pm, Tuesday 13 March, with everyone welcome from near and far in just one of our spectacular ‘8 Days of Pure Stoke’.
