Over 500 surfers and concerned locals turned up at Nobbys on Saturday to demonstrate opposition to oil and gas companies drilling off the coastline of NSW.

Kill the Drill: The Petroleum Exploration Permit 11 (PEP11) covers 4500 square kilometres extending off the coast between Newcastle in the north and Manly in the south.

The PEP11 permit officially expired in February, and has not been renewed however current permit holders – a joint venture between Advent Energy and Bounty Oil and Gas – are pressing forward with plans to drill.

The Petroleum Exploration Permit 11 expires in 2021 and the renewal application is nearing approval.

The Surfrider Foundation and Save Our Coast organised Paddle Outs at Mona Vale, Avoca, and Newcastle – and next is Byron Bay on May 8.
