With so many fresh faces and smooth styles taking to the waves in Gisborne this summer anything could happen. Local favourites are looking hot with the strong emergence of a crew spat out the other end of parenthood with Dan Proctor, Dan Croskery, Brent Rasby, Daryn Mcbride and many more moving back to Gizzy or spending more time on their surfing in recent years.
A young, stylish, soul surfing crew have also started to emerge amongst the not soo crowded peaks of Makorori. D fins, asymmetric boards and understated clean surfing see them set to cause all kinds of upsets with the old guard.
Injury taunts Guy Edge Burns and an impending second child looks to threaten Robson Timbs' appearance at MFL 2021 we wish them both luck and we have our fingers crossed that the stars will align and they can be part of what is going to be a fantastic event.
Angus Maindonald the style guru Patron of Zephyr Wainui Cafe is organising a MFL art show which will showcase many of the incredible artists within our local surfing community. Big names such as Tony Ogle, Clayton Gibson, Owen Williams and Gray Clapham set to grace the walls of Miharo Gallery. The Opening will occur on Friday night after our traditional Mihi Whakatau (welcome ceremony). Then on Saturday contestants will meet at Northern Makorori (Gisborne's home of longboarding) for a full day event finishing at Zephyr Wainui Cafe for the prize giving.
Jinx Johnson is shaping a stunning traditional board as the major spot prize and we have been humbled by other generous donations of spot prizes post covid.
We are super excited for MFL 2021 scheduled to take place on the 20th of February this year.
