New Zealand’s West End Wiggle – here it comes for 2021

3 February 21

A month away from the second West End Wiggle, summer is still in force in Ōhope Beach, Bay of Plenty, New Zealand. At the local break “The Haven” the days are long, the water is delightfully warm and the waves are curated for the logger’s dream.

This year, The West End Wiggle will be taking the festival to the next level, upscaling to a two day event on the 6th and 7th of March 2021.

The weekend will start on Saturday 6th March with the Invitational longboard competition where 64 of New Zealand’s best loggers have been invited to showcase their skills and style in the surf.

The vibe on the beach will be as pumping as the talent in the water with DJ Hot In The City spinning vinyl at the Wiggle market featuring New Zealand made surf apparel, Wiggle merchandise, delicious food and hot coffee.

And what would a surf festival be without a killer party? Kicking on from the day's competition will be the official West End Wiggle after party “Après Surf”. Three of New Zealand’s most talented indie psych rockers Mini Simmons, Joe Ghatt and Groove Lagoon will have hips wiggling all night long at this public event.  The event will be supporting local with Whakatane’s Mata Brewery quenching thirsts and favourite food vendors Tupuanuku, Burgers By Lex and Cannuck filling bellies.

Finishing off the weekend on Sunday 7th March, an all inclusive Tag Team competition will be held back at the West End beach. Teams of 5 enter on the day for a fun mix of creative surfing and party waves, with a custom Jordan Griffin Surfboards longboard up for grabs as the spot prize.

Local favourite Cadera Mexican Restaurant and Bar will host the closing ceremony of the weekend.

The family at Salt Air Surf and the Ōhope Beach surf community look forward to hosting this year’s West End Wiggle.
