The First Light is NZ’s longest running longboard gathering, and the 2024 event in Tairawhiti, Gisborne was held in memory of Don Pearson who was an excellent photographer and much loved Gizzy local.
Held at Creeks on Makorori beach last weekend, all the best locals were on show – with surfers such as Dan Proctor, Dylan Barnfield, Trent Lillis (the G.O.A.T), Matt Newdick and Dan Croskery among them.
The women’s saw two style masters go at it in the final, Hanna Kohn and Megan McHale.
It was a great day with the locals in Tairawhiti really putting on a great event thanks to Hanna Kohn and many others that helped - including the local Iwi welcome from Moti Proctor to bless all the competitors in the traditional Maori way.
