Longtime Surfrider supporter and filmmaker Jack McCoy has a long association with one of music’s most iconic and beloved artist, Paul McCartney. Eight years ago when he made his first music video with the former Beatle, Paul and Jack wanted to give something back to an ocean going cause with his underwater music video Blue Sway. They chose to use the clip to help promote and support Surfrider Foundation.

The next music video Jack created for Paul was used to launch the Surfers For Climate website that featured Belinda Baggs, one of the site's founders.

Last year Paul contacted Jack after he had created a third in a series of solo self-titled albums called McCartney III. On it was the track Slidin’ that he felt would be perfectly accompanied by some extreme sport footage and turned to McCoy to see if he could lend a hand.

“As soon as I heard the song I said to myself ‘Craig Anderson’, I called on some of Craig’s friends to provide me with some amazing footage and made what became the official video for the track,” says McCoy.

A few months later McCoy got wind that McCartney was about to release an alternate album featuring re-imaginings of the songs on McCartney III by some of the world’s biggest stars such as Anderson.Paak, Josh Homme, Dominic Fike and Beck.

Ed O’Brien from Radiohead produced a pumped-up version of Slidin’ which McCoy thought would be "perfect to make another surfing video as a bookend to the first,” says McCoy.

Paul liked the idea too and so they created what is known as SLIDIN’ EOB ReMix with 12 amazing free surfers including Dion Agius, Craig Anderson, Dane Reynolds and Creed McTaggart.

“When I first made Blue Sway, people wanted to know how it came about so I made a “Making Of” that came after the release that gave the back story. Fast forward to today, the EOB remix was released a couple of months ago and I’ve had many people ask me how it came about for Paul McCartney to make two videos in a row with surfing? I decided I’d do a “Making Of” for Slidin’ and the EOB Remix and let Surfrider Foundation Australia premiere it and encourage people to get involved with such a great cause,” says McCoy.

"Surfrider Australia is stoked to collaborate on this project with music, film and surfing royalty. Slidin’ captures the surfing spirit beautifully, and the clip has been huge for Surfrider Australia to help share its message of coastal conservation and clean oceans,” says Damien Cole, Surfrider Australia Campaign Manager.

Paul thinks so too. “I’m right behind Surfrider and the fantastic work they do for the community in Australia. Jack McCoy’s new video Slidin’ is a joyous expression of his love of surfing.”

It is with great pleasure that Surfrider premiers the Paul McCartney Slidin’ “Making Of” video on their Australian website.

You will find it on there and while you are at it, check out how you too can help preserve Our Mother Ocean by becoming a member, or donating your time.
