The Central and Northern Atolls are a tropical paradise with clear waters and user-friendly breaks. We’ll be surfing the name breaks in the Male atolls (Sultans, Honkeys, Ninjas, Jails and more), then we’ll have the opportunity to head to the Northern Atolls which is largely unexplored. There are currently 13 named breaks on Baa Atoll, but only 4 are surfed on a regular basis. August is prime-time for swell for both locations.
5 – 14 August 2019 (9 nights) - Maldives: Male & Northern Atolls
Harley Ingleby, 2 x World Longboard Champion, 3 x Open Aust. Longboard Champ and superbly talented all-boarder, will be headlining the trip, offering surfing tips for all levels of surfers, as well GoPro filming advice – Harley’s also a GoPro sponsored athlete.
Harley credits his all-board approach as key to his constant and contagious surf stoke. “Shortboarding expands my mind as to what’s possible and longboarding improves my overall strength and technique”, says Harley.
He’ll be bringing a longboard, mid-length and shortboard along.
“I’ve been to the Maldives twice before and it’s one of my favourite places in the world. There are so many waves that are perfect for all types of boards. And after each trip there I reckon I’ve finished a better surfer, just being able to surf so much on great waves for so many days straight! Plus I won my first World Title in 2009 in the Maldives, so I’m stoked to be going back to a place that’s created such happy, lifelong memories for me.” Says Harley.
Also on the trip will be surf photojournalist Neil Armstrong (aka ‘Moonwalker’, who has shot over 25+ front cover images and photographed and written numerous articles for surf titles around the world), who’ll be filming video and photo packages for everyone on the trip. Moonwalker is also long time consulting editor with Pacific Longboarder magazine. He’ll be shooting from the boat, water as well as drone footage.
Our floating Shangri-La for 9 nights will be the Handy Cruiser. At 120 feet long and 34 feet wide, it’s luxurious and stable.
All of the cabins are fully air-conditioned and have private en-suite bathrooms with hot & cold showers.
There is a large lounge saloon that has comfortable sofas and armchairs, and a bar for cocktail happy hour.
The on-board kitchen team will prepare three sumptuous meals a day with snacks whenever you’re hungry. Sun worshippers can choose from three sundecks, as well as shaded areas to enjoy the view without getting burnt.
