Locals and pro surfers rally to protest Equinor plans to drill for oil in The Great Australian Bight

21 April 19

From Surfrider Surf Coast Branch: Torquay you rock! A total of 4,000 people turned up today for what was one of the biggest rallies ever in Torquay.

This morning (Saturday) an estimated 2,500 people paddled out in protest against plans by Equinor to drill for oil in the Great Australian Bight.

It was awesome to see pro surfers Owen Wright, John John Florence and Nikki Van Dijk paddling out with thousands of local surfers, families and visitors to the Surf Coast.

A huge thanks to Surfrider Ambassador Damien Cole and everyone who contributed to today's event.
