16 May 22

This fun longboard event is designed to bring together like-minded amateur surfers for two fun filled days of surfing in the world-famous Kirra waves. The Kirra Longboard Klassic isn’t looking for future world champions just surfers that like to surf Kirra, show off a bit in the water to those on land, and to spread tales tall and true of that special wave they in the last big swell. Hell you don’t even need to compete on a 9ft board. Competitors can compete on soft-tops, mini-mals and fun boards as long as they want to have fun. With that in mind, the major award for the event is the “Macca” in memory of Mark McNamarra and is awarded to the “Surfer Having The Most Fun”.

An important part of what we are about as a community is helping those within our surfing community those surfers that need extra help to get into the surf, and to catch a few waves.

We include a disabled surfers section for a limited number of surfers who are unable to surf in an actual competitive division due to physical or mental limitations but still want to be included. Here we have Surfers helping Surfers.

We also acknowledge those past and present who have served in the defence forces protecting the freedoms we enjoy like surfing, by staging a division open to those men and women who have served their country.

Growing from its original mandate of being for local surfers, the popularity of this event has seen surfers from around Australia support this event. Hey, let’s face it, every surfer wants to surf Kirra.

For 2022 divisions to be contested include Male, Female, various age from Under 18’s to Over 60’s, Defence Force & Veterans and the highly contested Fancy Dress. To keep within the original concept of catering for local surfers, we are introducing a division solely for local surfers domiciled between Coomera in the North to Pottsville in the South.
