“I’m a dipster!” West Australia’s newly formed Mandurah Longboard Club is hosting a one-day event in Mandurah on the 4th of August and it is a little bit different to your average surf comp!
It’s in conjunction with the HDAS (Head Dip Appreciation Society) movement that promotes pure stoke and fun in surfing.
If your not up to speed with the HDAS movement, it’s a Facebook group page that was founded in 2013 by some of WA’s finest longboard talent, it’s now grown to have over 150 members from all over the globe. Each member of the group must have photos or videos submitted of them dipping their heads in a Lip to validate their membership.
This free-to-enter event's sole purpose is to bring back the fun and the Aloha spirit. It’s formatted to have the region's best surfers surfing with the everyday surfer.
There are 32 surfers that will compete on the day that have registered their entry via the face book group page HDAS.
The surfers will only be scoring rides based on head dips (no head dip no score).
The day will conclude with a bbq and many laughs about the day’s events.
If you want to catch the live action it will be broadcast live on the Surfing Perth Facebook group page.
