“Hangin' 5” by The Deltones – 1963 clip from Bandstand

9 March 23

The greatest daggy surf song ever! Fantastic vocals from the Deltones. Hanging 5 was written by a copper who was a member of the Manly Surf Club (a surfing musical policeman). The clip is a hodgepodge of Hawaiian surf, onshore Australian slop, and a stomp somewhere in Sydney – which was good enough for TV in 1963. The song though remains a killer – don’t you think?

* For our overseas readers/viewers, a “Malibu” is the nickname for a longboard in Australia – as it has been since 1956.
