Sly Stone has died aged 82. His band Sly and the Family Stone were maybe the first mixed black and white and male and female group anywhere - and they pioneered a fun mix of funk/rock/soul in a serious way.
This was his first big hit “Everyday People” which went Number 1 on both the R&B and Hot 100 charts in the US and UK in 1969.
It was a plea for peace and equality between differing races and social groups, a major theme and focus for the band. “We got to live together . . .”
Thanks for the music Sylvester Stewart. RIP
