George Greenough Movie Experience – news + VIDEO teaser

23 April 24

News supplied by Andrew McKinnon: Gold Coast World Surfing Reserve is hosting the George Greenough 6-pack Movie Experience as a Fundraiser during the Flotsam Festival at SCU GC Campus Auditorium on Tues 7th May.

To commemorate the release of the 50th anniversary of the legendary seventies movie Echoes, George Greenough had the original version of the film and soundtrack re-scanned and remastered into stunning 4K. The resulting product is incredible. The six pack is headed up by five short films which George has made along the way. The edited clip is from the Deep Tube Riding Segment.

Greenough is credited for being the architect of the shortboard revolution and the first to film inside the tube with his amazing footage of Lennox Head in 1970’s.

At the age of 82, George is still surfing on his mat and fishing in the Broken Head/Lennox area. He lives in a pyramid above Broken Head where he grows his own vegetables.

One of the greatest surfing innovators of all time, George moved from Santa Barbara to Australia in the mid 60s. I first witnessed George surfing on his kneeboard spoon flextail in 1965 at Noosa where he was performing figure 8 turns at National Park. I’d never seen surfing like it and knew I was watching the future. Like the mad professor in the movie Back to the Future, I liken George to be a surfing Einstein.

Don’t miss this Gold Coast exclusive of George’s remastered masterpiece vision on the big screen with surround stereo soundtrack performed by Pink Floyd, Band of Frequencies, and Will Connors. It is an experience you will not want to miss!

Tickets online at Flotsam Festival or at the door. Discounts for students & pensioners from 6.30pm – 8pm. Food & drinks available at the Greenroom Café.
