COB CLAIMS THE CARABINE

11 February 26

Kyle Heycox is from Lake Illawarra and as it happens he doesn’t live all that far from the Carabine Surfboards factory. “This is amazing! Thanks heaps, I never really win anything ha! And I do know some of the guys there and regularly competed against teamrider Nick Farago and the crew back when!”

Turns out Kyle is a coalminer and he was getting ready for a night shift when we phoned. “I work three nights straight every weekend and then get to surf as much as I can for the rest of the week, mostly Warilla Beach, Shallows, and the Farm. Around the local breaks I’m known as Cob – a nickname that has stuck with me since birth.

“Growing up I competed in a bunch of South Coast comps, with DV8s as my local club. Over the years though family and work have taken priority so club surfs and competitions have taken a bit of a back seat - though I still jump into the odd one when I can.

“I’ve always ridden longboards, even on trips to the Mentawai. I do own shortboards and fish, but longboarding has always been my love.”

And you’ve got a new one coming your way now Cob! The Shakey and The Piglet are Carabine’s two most popular modern log models and you can take a pick of either of those, or you can design your own custom. Shane Hornby and his crew at Carabine will be rapt to meet you at the factory mate, and see another true local on the Gong’s heritage label.
