When it comes to off-the-grid surf travel, Englishman Sam Bleakley has probably been surfing’s greatest wanderer since Peter Troy. Perhaps better known in recent years as the anchor of the WSL’s live coverage of the World Longboard Series, Sam surfed the tour himself back in the 2000s and was a multiple European Longboard Champion, while somehow finding time to research and write half a dozen surf travel books. Over time these morphed into the acclaimed Brilliant Corners documentary series which the WSL have now got behind.
Coincidentally, we have 8-pages on Sam and the series in the new issue of Pacific Longboarder (Issue 101) and who better to pick Sam’s brains than intrepid surf traveller Lucy Small? Lucy has written some exceptional essays and profiles for our mag over the past eight years or so, and she’s back with two pieces for the new issue, including Brilliant Corners and Into the Great Unknown covering longboarding’s changing landscape and the 2019 forays into Spain and New York.
