Andrew McKinnon is now the latest president of Surf World Surf Museum, at Currumbin on the Gold Coast, replacing Rob Ryan who resigned in early April due to poor health.
McKinnon is also Chair of the Gold Coast World Surfing Reserve Inc. that will be hosting the 2020 Global Wave Conference on the Gold Coast 10–15 February, 2020.
The former 1988 World ISA Longboard Champion is currently studying a B Arts degree in Social Science at Southern Cross University.
Andy Mac becomes the third chairman from founding chairman Mal Sutherland who established Queensland’s first Surfing Museum in 2009 and was President up until 2018. A celebration of the10th year anniversary of Surf World is planned for July where Sutherland will be presented with a Life Membership award.
Other new appointments includes Patron Peter Harris (1980 Burleigh Stubbies winner) who joins the Committee and is an integral part of a new subcommittee for curating.
Surf World has hosted two events so far this year with record attendances for Women in the Waves and Kanga’s book launch with PT & Rabbit. Their next function will be Tim Baker's Rip Curl book launch with RC co-owner Doug “Claw” Warbrick on Saturday 11th May from 6pm. $10.00 Admission, food and beverages available.
