Andrew from Noosa WINS the Chelman Volan Double Ender 9’1”

“What! That’s incredible!” yelled Andrew Bock when told he’d won the Chelman Surfboards Double Ender, “I’m seriously stoked! And . . . perfect timing as it happens!” Andrew mostly rides a 9’8” which was “already getting pretty weary” and that was before it took off in a gust of wind at the carpark last week and flew down onto those big round boulders at National Park – much to his mates’ amusement (always kinda funny when it’s not your board). 

Andrew was driving between jobs when we phoned, his dog Milo was barking along with his excitement, and it turns out he’s a hands-on architect who works solo, “Milo is the only employee”. His most recent project was the new Golden Breed surf shop, “And I really enjoyed all of that, being able to mix your work with your pleasure.” It also had him eyeing off a new board, “I also have a 7’10” but it doesn’t have enough area for me and was thinking of getting something a little over nine feet.”

Well here you go - the Chelman Surfboards 9’1” Volan Double Ender! 

Ryan Chelman grew up in his parent’s surf shop and shaping bay in Port Macquarie and has been building all sorts of boards full-time since 2007, originally under his Black Square label and these days as Chelman Surfboards out of Yamba.

Ryan glasses, sands and finishes them all himself, and this beauty with its paulownia stringer is a traditionally styled but tuned double ender glassed old-school in volan. It’s had plenty of road-testing over the years, and with 60/40 rails and a little bit of vee in the tail, it’s a super versatile 9’1” single-fin for small waves or size. Got to love that classy volan look and plan-shape. And this one’s all yours Andrew.
