Step inside the story of surf films with Flotsam: Retrospect, a rare, one-night-only homage to the craft of surf film making set against the cinematic backdrop of the historic Kirra Hill Cultural Centre, perched above the iconic Kirra Point.
On May 3, journey through surf cinema with pioneering filmmaker Dick Hoole, discussing the 50th anniversary of his groundbreaking film Tubular Swells alongside and intimate panel with figures from seminal films, including celebrated surfer Richard Harvey.
Together, they’ll unpack the evolution of the genre: how stories, style, and the soul of surfing have shifted across generations.
Then settle back in as the past becomes present with films that highlight some of surfing’s most infamous moments.
Film screenings including Should Have Been Here Yesterday, bringing timeless footage and untold stories back to life on the big screen.
