The groundbreaking filmmaker stepped out on a limb last weekend by sharing his life’s work in a one night only special event at Perth's UWA Octagon Theatre. And Jack was sweating a little in the lead-up wondering how it would be received, but it went over a treat with the enthusiastic crowd. That was no surprise to us, and maybe we’ll see more of these Jack-Fests on the eastern seaboard now. Here’s little update from the man himself:
Aloha All, it was an experiment I had to try and I could not have done it without each and everyone of your help and support.
For me it was almost four months of preparation. On the day of the event I pulled out what I call my ‘set list’ and started to go through it when after about five minutes I realised I knew the order of the 160 slices and clips backwards and that I only had to turn up and speak from the heart.
As many would know, Wayne Lynch was my special guest and he turned up with the flu so I isolated him in a hotel room until 5pm on the night of the show. The plan was to over his parts however once at the venue we didn’t get time to do so. The result was the two of us reliving our past adventures on the spot. From the reaction of all it was pretty special.
We had about 380 people there with 1/3rd complementary. We hope to break even and with the help of a sponsor down the track these sessions sharing the stoke might be able to go to others in the tribe around Oz and beyond.
For me it such a joy to give back thru these ‘talk story’ nights and again I could not have done it without all of you.
From the bottom of my heart I say THANK YOU and ALOHA.
