15 April 25
The contest is the longest running vintage longboard event in the world. Surfers from around the state bring classic old boards, required to be pre-1970 construction and over 25 pounds, leashes not allowed. Big Stick Surfing Association’s Logjam! features superb surfing, local vendors, surf rock tunes, and it all combines into beautiful vibes and Aloha. Logjam! is an official Coalition of Surfing Clubs contest, attracting competitive (aka shredding) longboarders from throughout California and the western states.
The Contest: Big Stick Surfing Association’s Logjam! is going off on April 26-27 – Pleasure Pont, Santa Cruz.
“Logjam! attracts surfers from around the country. We are somehow always lucky with beautiful weather and surf. Pleasure Point is a classic point break and people just love to come here. Our club and the community around Pleasure Point have a lot of pride in this contest, and it all comes together to create this wonderful aloha spirit” says David Harnish, president of Big Stick Surfing Association.
Community Fundraising. Logjam will again hold a home-town-raffle for prizes that include six surfboards from great local shapers as well as wetsuits and other great stuff. Online raffle pre-sales are underway on the Logjam! raffle site. Logjam!, through the raffle, has raised about $175,000 over the years for local non-profits and the Big Stick Surfing Association Scholarship Fund, all with the support of our sponsors and the community. More about our Community Giving.
Logjam is a Draw. Logjam! attracts 120+ contestants and thousands of spectators from all over California and has gotten national and even international notice. The event was picked up by Australian Pacific Longboarder magazine, Santa Cruz Sentinel, Santa Cruz Waves, all over Instagram, and more.
Media coverage of past Logjams has included The New York Times Soul Surfers Rekindle the Love of the Longboard - The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, the San Jose Mercury News, the San Francisco Chronicle, the Santa Cruz Sentinel, Longboard Magazine and the Santa Cruz Good Times. Internationally, our event also was featured in Switzerland’s largest newspaper, Tages Anzeiger.
