1959: Making Sydney’s Surfboards

18 November 23

Newsreel ferreted from the dusty files of British Pathe by Surf Detective Ian Lording, who added: "The late Greg McDonagh making boards in the garage at Evans St, Harbord in 1959 - and getting a little help from dad . . . dressed sensibly for work. Also a curly haired and solid Bluey Mayes?”

Greg McDonagh of course was one of the original “The Brookvale Six” manufacturers along with Barry Bennett, Danny Keogh, Scott Dillon, Gordon Woods and Billy Wallace - and he was particularly innovative with foam and pioneered EPS/Epoxy.

Shame the sound/voiceover is gone from this - but it’s a great little time capsule none-the-less.
