Surf Life Saving Queensland is expected to look at giving lifesavers the power to fine people who ignore their warnings on beaches.
Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast beaches were closed over the past fortnight due to wild weather, but it did not stop some swimmers and boardriders heading into the surf.
Surf Life Saving Queensland training and education coordinator Amanda Hinkley says lifesavers do not have the authority to fine people, but she expects the issue will be discussed with police.
"Over the past couple of weeks things have been pretty bad, I'm sure meetings will be set up in the next week or so," she said.
"It is very hard for our surf lifesavers because they do not have the authority, but at the end of the day commonsense does prevail for the majority of people, so I guess that's a positive thing."
