D-BAH: DAY 1 AT OZ LONGBOARD TITLES – WRAP & PHOTOS
Wednesday, 2 August 2017

The 2017 Australian Longboard Titles got off to a flying start at Duranbah Beach as the Open divisions got the opportunity to showcase their repertoires in clean three-foot waves.

Local competitor Dane Pioli  (Tweed Heads, NSW) showed his nous of the Duranbah beachbreak dominating the opening heat of the day. Pioli performed a variety of traditional turns as well as a handful of progressive snaps to post the highest two-wave heat total of the day, 15.50 (out of a possible 20 points).

Other Open Men’s round one winners included: William Crowe (Collaroy, NSW) Anthony Spencer (Trigg, WA), Jack Medland (Marmion, WA), Grant Ferguson (Long Jetty, NSW) and Declan Wyton (Annandale, NSW).

After taking out the Junior Women’s division last year at the Australian Surf Festival, Tully White (Allambie Heights, NSW) showed she was more than capable of mixing it up with the older division, comfortably taking a first round victory in the Open Women’s. White notched up a respectable 12.25 heat total to seal her position straight into the semi-finals.

The Over-35 Men’s division was dominated by perennial longboard standouts Greg Brown (Jan Juc. Vic) and Dean Bevan (Wellington Point, Qld) who both performed a mix of impressive snaps to post heat totals in excess of 13.00 and take first round victories.

The 2017 Australian Surf Festival continues Friday from 7:30am the more of the Australian Longboard Titles.
