NOOSA FEST & THE INTERNATIONAL INTEREST
Wednesday, 2 August 2017

Entries have been open for just one month and already a swathe of international competitors have signed up for the 2018 Laguna Real Estate Noosa Festival of Surfing.

While local and regional Queenslanders make up a large proportion of the early entrants, surfers from around the World – some first-timers, but many returning guests – have entered the 27th annual event.

Most noticeably though, has been the influx of young Hawaiian competitors. With only the junior and age divisions currently open, the youth contingent from the birthplace of surfing is once more making a strong impression.

The Schremmer sisters – Scarlett, Lola and Mason – will once again make the journey from their home on Oahu, Mason to defend her title as 2017 Women’s Under 18 champion. Also defending a title will be Kelis Kaleopaa, winner of this year’s girl’s Under 15 age group, and Kaniela Stewart, who took out the Pacific Longboarder Magazine Men’s Under 18 division on his first trip to Noosa Heads this March. These five are joined by three more Hawaiians, all first-timers, for what is fast becoming recognised as a renowned global event for the next generation of longboarders.

Also filling fast are the Women’s 35 & Over and 70 & Over Open divisions. Entries are up 25 percent on this time last year and, with over 900 competitors in 2017, it’s looking like the 2018 Laguna Real Estate Noosa Festival of Surfing could creep ever closer to the magic 1,000 entries.

The early bird discount offer will end on September 1st, and all pro & specialty divisions will open for entry on November 1st. Festival staff are busy planning every aspect of the 2018 event, looking to make the 27th annual Laguna Real Estate Noosa Festival of Surfing bigger, brighter and better than ever before.
