Tuesday, 4 July 2017

The sun came up at Point Impossible to reveal perfect conditions, 2-3ft and pure glass - ideal for old mals and logs. Victoria’s best old mal surfers and loggers turned up on June 17 and were stoked to see such classic conditions.

All divisions were full and we were in for a long day of surfing. The standard was high right from the start and every heat was super competitive with wave scores in the high 8s and 9s needed to get through to the next round.

The finals saw the cream of the crop rise to the top with multiple Victorian longboard title holder Matt Lumley competing for the first time in many years, and Belinda Baggs said it was her first comp in 10 years. Angela King was also competing, and we were in for some cracking finals. All the finalists deserved their spots and we were in for a magnificent display of traditional moves on beautiful old boards.

This event is run by the Southern Ocean Union of Longboarders (SOUL) club and we would like to thank the Great Ocean Road Committee of Management for allowing us to run at PT Impossible.  Get Ocean Stays for the handmade trophies and our members who judged and helped out during the day.
