THE MIGHTY WHALEBONE CLASSIC TURNS 20 – WEST AUSTRALIA ANYONE?
Sunday, 18 June 2017

Perth has to be one of the greatest cities on the planet, and Cottesloe is its coolest beachside suburb, and its annual Whalebone is hands-down one of the flashest, friendliest, funnest, longboard competitions and celebrations you could possibly attend.

And it's rolling around for the 20th time this July. Please see the following news release from Surfing Western Australia's Media & Events Intern Shannon Bochenek

"The world's best longboarders are making their way to the wild Western Australian coast to compete in what will be the 20th annual Whalebone Longboard Classic.

"Hosted at Perth's 'Isolators' reef break in sunny Cottesloe, the Whalebone is the 6th stop on the WSL World Longboarding Tour.

"Featuring pro surfers as well as men's and women's divisions from ages 18 through to 60, the Whalebone classic is known locally for its spirit of camaraderie.

"The Whalebone Classic was born in 1997 and is the brainchild Cottesloe local Peter Dunn, who discovered a whalebone immersed in the surf at Isolators Reef and hosted a longboarding competition in memory of the whale's spirit. Twenty years later, the competition has grown to become a much loved tradition in the local community.

"Reigning Whalebone Champion Taylor Jensen (USA) will be returning to defend his Open Men's title at the 2017 competition."
