A full day of stand up paddle surfing in three divisions, plus a 5K battle of the paddle race will showcase the best in the fast-growing sport on opening day of the Noosa Crick's Jeep Festival of Surfing.

The stand up paddle division, sponsored by leading SUP boards manufacturer Surftech, will be contested over the first weekend of the festival and will include open men's and women's surfing events, plus a men's 10 foot plus division, and the five kilometre "battle of the paddle" race over a close-in course next to First Point. The SUPs weekend is being put together in conjunction with the Sunshine Coast SUPS Club, and is expected to attract a big field of regional and interstate paddlers.

The Surftech SUPS will kick off with a Saturday afternoon expression session at First Point whil competitor registration and the inauguration of the XXXX Summer Beach Bar, a Hawaiian-style hut built right on the sand at the centre of the PJ Burns Festival Village, gets underway from 4pm. Prizes for best SUPS manoeuvres will be awarded in the bar.

Says Festival Director Phil Jarratt: "Our competitor registration in the beach bar is always a hoot, and we want all our SUPS competitors to be part of the fun from the start. As well as having Surftech back in as major sponsors offering some great product prizes, we're stoked to have the Sunshine Coast SUPS Club on board to help us put together our opening weekend program, and particularly our SUPS Sunday. We've got the message that there are a large number of paddlers in South East Queensland who have wanted to compete in previous years but can't take a week off work, so we're running all divisions to the end over the weekend, in what should be an incredible display of stand up paddle skills."

Surftech SUPS Sunday will also feature the Dog Surf Spectacular, with stand up paddlers and their dogs taking to the waves, plus tandem and celebrity exhibitions, and an all-day SUPS equipment expo on the beach. The day will climax with the official festival opening ceremony and spectacular paddle out, followed by the Band of Frequencies performing live on the Zinc Stage.

What a great way to start the 2013 Noosa Cricks Jeep Festival of Surfing!
