PEMBROKESHIRE COASTLINE CLEANUP
Thursday, 25 October 2012

The National Trust is known as one of the largest conservation charities in Britain, caring for places of historic interest all over the UK. Here in Pembrokeshire we have very few of the large houses usually associated with the Trust but we do have areas of outstanding natural beauty and miles of coastline and countryside that we help to maintain and preserve, totalling nearly 30% of the Pembrokeshire coastline.

The National Trust at Stackpole is one of the partners that look after one of the most stunning parts of the Pembrokeshire coastline; Freshwater West. This beautiful wind swept beach attracts a huge number of visitors all year round but it is also known as one of the most consistent surf destinations in Wales, providing ideal conditions for the sport. The Welsh and British Surfing Championships have been held here.

Freshwater West therefore is a natural location for the Stackpole team and the National Trust Surf Ambassadors to form a progressive partnership. The Surf Ambassador scheme was originally formed to support and promote the conservation work carried out in the surfers' playgrounds along the Devon and Cornwall coast and now the scheme will be involved in the Trusts work along the Pembrokeshire coast.

Saturday the 27th of October will see our National Trust surf ambassador, Raife Gaskell, in association with the Stackpole team lead a litter pick on Freshwater West beach.

Rebecca Stock, Stackpole Operations Manager said, "Raife is one of Britain's rising surf stars. It is a real privilege to be working with such an amazing surfer who is so down to earth and interested in our work."

Why not join Raife and the Stackpole to make a real difference between 11am and 1pm on the 27th October.
