Proposed Crusie Ship Terminal

Wednesday, 10 October 2012
The Gold Coast City Council splashed out $1.7 million towards a cruise ship terminal. It is the biggest spend on the controversial project so far. It was allocated behind closed doors at a special budget meeting this morning. Councillors spent more than an hour debating it in private.
Of the money, $745,000 will be spent on investigating and consultation on the tender process to select a company to build the terminal. Another $924,000 will be spent on investigating the council's preferred location for the terminal off Main Beach. About $400,000 of that will be spent in the next three months.
It follows the Bulletin's report that councillors' support for the terminal was "not a done deal", with many undecided on the issue. Council also voted today to "evaluate" the council's position on a cruise ship terminal when navigation and economic reports come back in December.
