The Sunshine Coast secured their second consecutive overall World Surfaris Coast of Origin Interclub Series title, outpointing the Gold Coast 365-points to 285-points, with a dominant display of surfing over the weekend at Coolum Beach.
Despite wins from a fighting Snapper Rocks Surfriders in the Shortboard Tag Team component and overall Shortboard Club Championship, it was the depth of the Sunshine Coast across all their Club’s that proved the difference in the end.
Every Sunshine Coast Shortboard State Challenge competitor pockets $50 each for their respective club, winning the Sunshine Coast Shortboard vs. Gold Coast Shortboard competition.
Snapper Rocks Surfriders effort was not in vain, with the Southern Gold Coasters walking away with $500 for their triumph in the Shortboard Tag Team component.
The Sunshine Coast’s Longboard and Stand-Up-Paddleboard competitors set the tone for the weekend, handing their shortboard counterparts a 33-point lead at the beginning of the final day, before the champion Coast’s shortboard contingent built on their momentum to take home the title once again.
Running from September 8-9, the World Surfaris Coast-of-Origin Interclub Series showcases the state’s most talented Club surfers across shortboard, longboard and stand-up-paddleboard (SUP) with the Sunshine Coast super-team claiming Queensland’s Boardriding Club surfing supremacy for 2012.
Over 20 Queensland Boardriding Clubs from Noosa to Coolangatta converged on the Sunshine Coast, with upwards of 200 competitors vying for the title of Queensland’s best surfing coast.
The seven-event World Surfaris Coast-of-Origin Interclub Series sees surfers of all disciplines (Shortboard, Longboard and Stand Up Paddleboard) and ages, represent their respective Boardriding Clubs, their region and ultimately their ‘Coast’ – uniting Queensland’s grass-roots surfing community in an amazing interclub competition.
