Celebrating the surfing of vintage boards (as opposed to hanging them on walls), the Oz Old Mal movement gets set for the Nationals. Daffy "Keep-Your-Old-Girls-Wet" Chisholm reports:
This year, over the first weekend of spring (September 1&2), there are $4000 worth of prizes in total across two contestant draws. So by the end of the weekend two lucky surfers will walk away with either a Cooper Plywood Hollow Surfboard donated by George & Marcie Cooper and valued at two grand, or an accommodation package for six people for a week at Balian in Bali!
Many thanks to our sponsors Crescent Head Country Club, Coopers Plywood Surfboards & Academy of Surfing Instructors who have also helped Old Mal Australia to facilitate a Traditional Judging Course and set in place a Judging criteria for all elements of Traditional Surfing.
The Crescent Head Mal Club require time to organise the draw and print programs and entries are nearly full with only four spots remaining in the Loggers & Open Division. For those who've entered you're looking at a 1 in 55 chance for a win . . . good odds at the best of times!
The Crescent Head Country Club is the venue as always for all the evening festivities. There are 8 divisions to be surfed with entry forms available online at the Crescent Head Malibu Club site and Old Mal Australia web site. www.oldmalaustralia.com
