Brent - a PLB subscriber for 15 years - cracks the jackpot.

Wednesday, 22 August 2012
When we phoned Brent McLauchlan, a financial advisor with a business in the CBD, he was driving across the Sydney Harbour Bridge and nearly ran off the bloody thing. "Fantastic . . . hey I've never been so excited heading into work!" he laughed.
Now living in Lane Cove, Brent grew up in Bondi and started surfing in the '50s as a little kid. "I surfed with Robert Conneely, Brian Morris, Gary Keyes, Chris Brock, Kevin Brennan, all those guys. These days I get down the South Coast a fair bit, I ride an 8'10" and surf around the Lake Conjola area, Green Island, Ulladulla . . . but geez I'm 68 now, not so sure I can do the Supermal justice!"
Sure you can Brent! Outer Island shaper Mitchell Rae calls the Supermal Longboard Gun his "shipwreck model", and for sure it's the perfect board for the solid stuff, but it's designed to work in anything down to two-feet, especially if they're a bit steep. And plenty of racey ones down the South Coast, you're going to surprise yourself Mac!
With excellent paddling power and easy wave entry, the Supermal is fast but surprisingly loose, and at 9'1" x 21 ½" x 2 ¾" is tuned in with chine entry, single to double concave, and available in thruster, 1+2, or quad configurations or with multiple boxes to cover all options.
Mitchell Rae started adding the distinctive "spirit eyes" up front on the decks of his Outer Island surfboards after his first visit to Bali in 1972, inspired by the eyes on the bows of local fishing boats. In the years since, Mitchell's become an Indo veteran, ridden countless serious waves, and been on a 40-year quest to build beautiful surfboards – shortboards through to trad-styled longboards and especially graceful speed-shapes.
